Treatment
Possible treatments for patients diagnosed with liver disease are:

An alcohol-free diet

Vaccination for Hepatitis B (HBV) unless already infected with Hepatitis B and Hepatitis A (HAV) if not already immune
-
A diet low in sodium, high in carbohydrates and high in protein; raw shellfish, red meat and fat should be avoided

Patients with cirrhosis should not take NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) such as Advil (Ibuprofen), Motrin (Ibuprofen), or aspirin-type drugs. In general, patients should consult their physician before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Patients with cirrhosis have a greater risk of ulcer disease and should discuss with the physician the possibility of taking an anti-ulcer medication.

Liver transplantation is one of several options, and may be discussed with the patient’s hepatologist, or liver specialist.
